Co-operative Management Education (CME) at Saint Mary’s University offers rigorous and dynamic programs for co-operative management professionals. The programs cultivate a deep understanding of co-operatives, credit unions and mutuals, within a globalized, online curriculum. With an international student body, the programs have enrolled over 140 students from around the world. Program options include the Master of Management, Co-operatives and Credit Unions, Graduate diploma in Co-operative Management, Bilingual Certificate in Co-operative Management, Executive Education Course, and Field Study Tours to Italy, Spain and Cuba. CME also hosts symposia regularly and has partnerships with institutions internationally.
Dr. Daphne Rixon is Associate Professor of Accounting. She has a PhD in accounting from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA). She has over 20 years’ experience in the private and public sectors as Controller and Director of Finance. Dr. Rixon has a very productive research program which has resulted in over 80 peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations. Her current research focus is on key performance indicators reported by co-operatives and credit unions. Dr. Rixon’s work has been published by the Filene Research Institute, International Journal of Co-operative Management and the Journal of Co-operative Studies. She is Editor of the Journal of Co-operative Accounting and Reporting and is a member of the Editorial Board for Managerial Finance. In addition to her position of Associate Professor, she is also the Executive Director of the Centre of Excellence in Accounting and Reporting for Co-operatives (CEARC) where she is responsible for the overall administration of CEARC, co-ordinating research projects and overseeing the development of International Statements of Recommended Practices for Co-operatives. Dr. Rixon teaches managerial and cost accounting in the undergraduate program as well as Financial Management in the Masters of Management for Co-operatives and Credit Unions (CME) program.
Global Co-operation was started in 2000 and has played a key role in the development of the Co-operative Management Education programs at Saint Mary’s university as well as consulting, workshops and speaking engagements in Canada, USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
