Joy EmmanuelTurning Times
Joy Emmanuel is a co-operative developer, researcher and community economic development practitioner. Joy completed the Advanced Course in the CoopZone Co-operative Development Training Program. As a developer, she has worked with a number of co-ops in the start-up stage of development. She has helped to found and served on the board of seven co-operatives in diverse sectors such as food, health, education, community service, and also served on the board of CoopZone. She was a senior researcher and project manager at the BC Institute for Co-operative Studies (now the Centre for Co-operatives and Community-Based Economy) at the University of Victoria. She has edited and contributed to several books on co-operatives including Effective Practices in Starting Co-operatives: The Voice of Canadian Co-op Developers and A Passion for Possibilities: Co-operatives and Communities in British Columbia. Joy has been involved in co-operative work from the local to the national level. She was also a contributing member of the Research Advisory Committee with CCEDNet. Joy lives in Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island.
